Why every techie should blog
The secret to getting ahead is getting started. - Mark Twain
Hello, this is my first blog post. And shortly, I will show you my motivation for blogging. This will be exciting and short. I promise.
Motivation for Blogging
So, as a Software Developer based in Nigeria, with around 5 years working experience, I find that there are concepts which I still struggle to wrap my head around. At work when I have to do the same thing after a while, I either google it or look up a Google Doc I created and do Ctrl+F. I wanted to write. I wanted to document. I also wanted to master those concepts I found unclear.
I watched Hack Your Career by Troy Hunt. (video below) and I was fired up.
So, today, I decided to take the step, and stand up this blog. And yes, I did it in about 12 hours (ergonomic breaks, breakfast and lunch inclusive).
I registered the domain on namecheap.com, Setup the Instance on Amazon AWS using EC2, and finally installed ghost; the blogging engine.
The following are the commitments I make as I begin my Journey to Level up my Career
- To document the Journey as I prepare to take Oracle Java Programmer exam.
- To document the learnings I have gathered over the past few years, coding
- Document learnings I have gained, as well as mistakes in architecting solutions
- And Yes, I will write about topics that are yet unclear in my head. This way I will become an Authority in these concepts.
I am open to questions and contributions. This is a personal transformation Journey. I am usually not the type to put myself out there. But I can sense this is the right thing to do at this time.
Update
I used JIRA to manage the task of launching the website, from start to finish in a few hours. In a subsequent post, I will write about how to increase productivity and track releases using JIRA.
